Before we get into our list of hotels and hostels in Singapore, there are a few things worth knowing about where to stay in Singapore. First, it is not possible to stay in Singapore. We discovered this when we booked an Airbnb apartment in Singapore for our last visit in February 2017 and it was canceled a few weeks before our arrival and the owner explained that this was because Airbnb rentals had become illegal.

I have heard from many people and even from news sources that it is illegal to stay on Airbnb but this can be confusing because Singapore is still listed as a country on Airbnb and according to many sources. There are no real laws against it. the. However, for all intents and purposes, I think it’s fair to say that if you book an Airbnb in Singapore, you do so at your own risk.

Secondly, public transportation in Singapore is very good (reliable, clean and very cheap) and taxis are relatively affordable, so don’t feel pressured to stay in a hotel or motel in Singapore that is close to the main attractions and most popular areas. So if budget is an issue, keep this in mind! However, many of the budget hotels and hostels in Singapore listed below are in great locations.

If there was a hotel, I think everyone visiting Singapore would want to stay in this hotel, and for good reason. So when we visited Singapore for the first time, almost one year after Marina Bay Sands Hotel opened, we decided to go there and see what all the fuss was about, and yes, it is. I definitely want to try this pool.

We stayed three nights at Marina Bay Sands and were lucky enough to get a free upgrade to a Club room which gave us a better view, larger room and access to the Club Lounge, which we didn’t really take advantage of. Except to get drinks and some snacks there sometimes.

But before we talk about that, let’s talk about how big this hotel is. It is a very large. When you first enter the entrance, you will feel like you are entering a shopping mall or even an airport terminal. The reception is going on but there are people everywhere. Walls extend on both sides and you can see past the corridor of the hotel rooms. On the ground floor, if I remember correctly, there are at least three great restaurant bars in the lobby, so remember if you agree to meet someone there!

Swimming pool, right? Yeah, yeah, it was something special and I don’t think I ever swam in an unforgettable pool, but it’s fair to say that it quickly became more human soup than pool. We’ve heard that the best way to get a good photo with no one else in it, let alone the best lighting, is to go up at sunrise. We did this and it was 100% worth it. When we got to the pool at any other time it was very crowded and it was also strange that there were a lot of people watching you in the water or lying on the loungers in the pool because guests from outside the hotel are allowed to go to the viewing gallery or the bar-restaurant in The top (although you still have to pay!).

Is Marina Bay Sands worth the hype? Honestly, it’s true. Since we did it right after you unlocked it for the first time, it really does have a great new value, and this free upgrade is a special bonus. But it is by no means a cheap hotel, and I can say that we got more value for money and better service for a little less money during our stay at the Fullerton Bay Hotel almost six years later.

But again this pool is very private and of course the location of the hotel is one of the best with a lot of Marina Bay development on your doorstep. Just remember to set your alarm early to make the most of this amazing pool.

The Fullterton Hotel is one of the most impressive buildings in Singapore. Built in 1924, it was previously used as a general post office and has a lighthouse at the top (now the lighthouse bar).

The area it’s located in is called Boat Quay, about a 15 minute walk from Clarke Quay along the river, ideally located for local bars and restaurants, exploring Singapore for the day and catching a glimpse of Marina Bay Sands.

As the building is quite old, although the hotel itself is excellent in terms of service and amenities, the rooms are not as impressive as you would expect in a hotel of this price range. However, the pool and rooftop bar make up for that. The pool overlooks the river and is a perfect place to watch people go about their lives and the sunset. The rooftop Lighthouse Bar, overlooking Marina Bay Sands, is not as expensive as you might expect given the view.

Rooms at The Fullerton start from around £300 a night. When I stayed, the only rooms they had left at the time were the Straits Club rooms, which means you stay on another floor and get free snacks and drinks all day.
