Choosing a hotel for your family on Oahu is a big decision. There are many to choose from, and they all offer different amenities at different price points. But there are some hotels on the island that stand out as the best places to stay with children.

You can find our reviews and we also have a video tour of each hotel to help you make the absolute best choice for your family holiday.
Courtyard By Marriott Waikiki Beach: Best Hotels In Waikiki For Families
Before reading the detailed description of each Oahu kid-friendly hotel, take the time to watch the video and get an overview of what each Oahu family hotel has to offer.
Oahu’s resort and family-friendly areas are Waikiki, Ko Olina and the North Shore. There are other great places to stay on Oahu, but they don’t offer as many family vacation options or activities for the whole family.
Although Waikiki has many luxury resorts, it has advantages that make it difficult for others to compete.
Called the Pink Palace of the Pacific, you live in luxury when you stay with your family at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
Where To Stay In Waikiki
In addition, you will receive a voucher for a free bag of pastries from the hotel’s bakery. Sometimes it’s the little things that make a holiday better.
But they also offer something that some other luxury resorts lack: access to the kid-friendly facilities at the nearby Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. Children can splash around in the Helumoa playground with two pools, a slide and a fountain. If your kids want some alone time, they can join the Sheraton Waikiki Kids Club.
So if you have kids who like big (fun!) resorts, and parents who want to get away from the kid-filled atmosphere and relax, this is the place. This is truly a resort for the whole family to enjoy.
Biggest Pro: This resort appeals to people of all ages. A quiet and luxurious sanctuary for parents (reminiscent of where we were before Henry) with amenities the kids will love.
Best Family Hotels On Oahu
Biggest Cons: There were moments when we felt out of place and our kid enjoyed himself (seriously).
🍍 Children’s club: Poppins Keiki Waikiki at the neighboring Sheraton Hotel is for children from 3 months to 12 years and is open to everyone, not just hotel guests.
Above the Royal Hawaiian Hotel is the Sheraton Waikiki. This 32-story hotel has over 1,600 rooms and is located right on the water in the heart of Waikiki.
Compared to other hotels in the area, the Sheraton sometimes feels like a mega-hotel, but because of its size, it has amenities that others don’t.
Best Family Resorts & Hotels In Oahu (2023)
🍍 Centrally located, you’re in the middle of everything, but you pay less than if you stayed next to the Royal Hawaiian or in the Moana Surfrider block, other nearby Marriott properties.
The biggest advantage: the location. Right in the heart of Waikiki and provides easy access to everything you want in town. It makes it easy to visit places with the family.
Biggest disadvantage: This is a beach hotel without direct access to the beach. The beach is destroyed and you no longer have access to it, which means that the hotel does not have beach chairs if you want to spend the day on the beach.
A step-by-step itinerary takes you to the best beaches, dive sites, restaurants and attractions. You’ll be given a carefully planned six-day itinerary to help you see the must-see stops, no matter how much time you have.

🍍 Kids Club: Poppins Keiki Waikiki is open to children from 3 months to 12 years and is open to everyone, not just hotel guests (even if it’s at the Sheraton).
🍍 Pool: infinity pool and family pool area for adults only, including a water slide for older children and a water slide for small children.
Hilton Hawaiian Village is the most family-friendly hotel you’ll find in Waikiki. And it’s not really a hotel.
Best Hotels In Waikiki For Families: Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort And Spa Review
As their website states, “we are the only resort in Waikiki.” Having stayed at several hotels in the area, I agree with this sentiment.
Located on 22 hectares on the edge of Waikiki, this is the largest Hilton and one of the largest hotels in the world. There are 3386 rooms so this place is always busy and very active. It has five pools, several water slides and a man-made lagoon where beginners can splash around.
I have to say, I thought the lagoon was going to be horrible – I love the beach! But taking our baby to the lagoon was the best. No worries about the waves, not too many people, he had the best time getting in and out of the water. You do not have to be a hotel guest to use the lagoon.
The Hilton is located on the edge of Waikiki, so you’ll be a bit removed from the action. This can be good or bad depending on what you are looking for.
Best Area To Stay On Oahu (2023)
Getting to the heart of Waikiki is quite a walk, which can be difficult if you’re wrangling the kids along. But it’s removed enough that the resort feels a bit secluded. No one is bored if you can’t leave the resort for an afternoon (or day).
Biggest Pro: If you’re traveling with small children or non-swimmers, the lagoon offers a safe and fun way to enjoy the water.
Biggest downside: The resort is on the outskirts of Waikiki, so if you want to go out for lunch or do something more central, it’s quite a walk to get there.
🍍 Activities: hula and ukulele lessons, lei sessions, yoga or tai chi lessons, children’s activities under the stars on Wednesdays and Saturdays, fireworks on Fridays, daily bonfires.
Hotel Rooms & Suites In Waikiki
Ko Olina is 30 minutes from Honolulu. The main attraction (besides the weather) is the four artificial lagoons, which make swimming here perfect even for nervous swimmers.
Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club offers standard hotel rooms, one and two bedroom villas, making it easy for you to find the right accommodation. The beach club is located at Lagoon 2 in Ko Olina, and feels less crowded and less hectic than what you will find at Lagoon 1.
The resort is perfect with spacious grounds that are busy yet peaceful. The pools are what you would expect from a large resort: several pools, waterfalls and a waterslide. Plus, there are free beach chairs – something you won’t find at Waikiki resorts.
Biggest Pros: Although it’s a large, family-friendly resort, it’s not as crowded as other places on the island.
Best Resorts In Oahu For Families (2023)
Biggest downside: The hotel is a short walk from Ko Olina station, where you will find many restaurants and the cheapest shops in Ko Olina, the country market on the island.
The newest addition to Ko Olina is the Disney Aulani Hotel. The resort has 351 hotel rooms and 481 villas, making it the largest resort on Ko Olina.
As you might expect, this place is very child-friendly. From tons of activities to characters walking the grounds, if you have a Disney-loving kid, this is the place to be.
The pool is amazing – it has a lazy river, slides and it’s huge. They do a great job of enjoying the pool and the pool party. While we were there, the pool party was with So and included entertainment, dancing and pool games. It was FUN, but it was the most crowded pool scene I’ve ever seen at any resort.
Waikiki Resort Hotel
The lagoon was just as crowded, but that could also be because it is a lagoon shared by the four seasons.
It won’t be the right place for everyone. If you are looking for a more relaxed vacation in Hawaii, this may not be the hotel for you. But if you want a hotel suitable for children, this is the place.
Biggest Cons: The resort was the most crowded and busiest of all the resorts on Ko Olina (and really all the resorts on this list).
🍍 Activities: Children’s pool party, boogie boards and free beach games, scavenger hunts, bonfire stories, Disney characters, sunrise yoga on the beach, stargazing, movie nights.
